Each shape is filled with vertical lines crossed by S-shaped ribbons leaning alternately to the right and to the left, cut along the outline of the shape; the holes of a path stay empty.
|

The line spacing sets the scale: the other pattern settings are counted in line spacings. A ribbon hides the background lines only over its wave, so the ribbon shift and the column step are whole numbers of spacings.
|
|
|
|
The column step and the row step set how tightly the ribbons are packed. If they end up overlapping, each row passes over the previous one and lines get cut: increase one of the two steps to keep the ribbons apart.
|
|
|
|
The result is a group named “Wavy ribbon pattern”, placed just above the shape and holding a single path with no fill.</label>
